1910

In 1912, Louis Rubin opened a carpentry and contracting firm in Albany, NY.

1920

The small firm continued to strive to make a name for itself in the Albany area.

1930

In 1934, Rubin  formed a partnership with the Sano Brothers, Angelo and Benny.

1940

During the remainder of the 30's and into the 40's the partners focused on storefronts and small office buildings, typical projects of the era.

Rubin's son, Donald, joined the company after the second World War, starting a family tradition.

1950

A busy time for the firm, which built many of the area's public schools, as well as performing major construction at the downtown campus of the University at Albany.

The company is incorporated in 1958 and taking on the name  Sano-Rubin Construction Co., Inc.

1960

Sano-Rubin's projects became more varied and increasingly complex during the 60's, and the firm embarked on buildings that have become local landmarks:  the Times Union and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Student Union.

In 1963, Sano-Rubin introduces the concept and practice of construction management in the Capital Region.

1970

In 1971, the Rubin family become the sole owners and operators of the firm.  David Rubin, currently the company president, joined Sano-Rubin in 1978, continuing the family tradition of personal involvement in the business.

1980

The company takes on more and more challenging projects, including hospitals, industrial facilities, and specialized housing.

In the 80's and into the 90's Sano-Rubin also became a leader in all forms of health care construction.

1990

Sano-Rubin builds on a tradition of involvement in the construction industry and in 1995 David Rubin is elected president of the GBC General Building Contractors and in 1999 is elected president of ECA Eastern Contractors Association.

2000

Throughout the decade, the company continues to grow completing complex projects in the healthcare, senior housing, museum and college markets.  Some notable clients include St. Peter's Hospital, Northeast Health, Albany Institute of History of Art and the College of Saint Rose.

Green and sustainable construction becomes increasingly prominent throughout New York State.  Recognizing this industry shift,  staff members become LEED accredited professionals and builds numerous LEED certified projects.

2010

Looking ahead, Sano-Rubin is prepared to build for the future with a tradition of quality construction, dedicated, knowledgeable employees, and a high level of customer satisfaction.

“Sano-Rubin has been the paragon of the construction partner every owner dreams of.”

Mark Koblenz, Chief Executive Officer, Daughters of Sarah Senior Community

“Thank you for attending last night's Board meeting and responding to questions...Things went so well, not only did we get approval for the additional projects, the Board wants us to add more.  I appreciate all of your efforts…”

Neil Sanders, Assistant Superintendent for Business, Guilderland Central School District

“The services provided were exemplary and in our opinion proved to be the single most important factor in coordinating our project and in bringing it to a successful conclusion.”

Thomas J. Rybaltowski, Business Administrator North Colonie Central School District

“Sano-Rubin did a phenomenal job of completing the project as scheduled.  Their project team was highly professional and truly committed to the delivery of a building that met the LEED standard and the College’s requirements…The results have been spectacular and noteworthy.”

Marcus Buckley, Vice President for Finance and Administration, The College of Saint Rose

On time and on budget, these are words not heard all too often in this day and age. All of us…extend our sincere appreciation to Sano-Rubin who … successfully met the ambitious construction schedule established for our project.

M. Christian Bender, Executive Director, The Brighter Choice Foundation

“The amount of cooperation and professionalism between all of the employees has been tremendous…a sincere thanks to you for overseeing our needs and giving us the attention we needed.”

Carol Bradt, RN, Clinical Manager, Ellis Hospital Wound Care Center

“Without exception, Sano-Rubin provided quality CM services, on time construction schedules and UNDER budget construction costs…with NO expiration date on their commitment to their clients.”

William O’Brien, retired Director of Administration, NYS Teachers' Retirement System

“Sano-Rubin Construction as our Construction Managers…have been accurate and conservative in construction estimates providing the District with a comfortable margin to address the important little things at the end of the project…breaking the project into manageable bid packages thus attracting more bidders and generating more competitive bids.  Sano-Rubin has maintained excellent relationships with over 100 on-site contractors yet, they aren't afraid to "turn up the heat" on a contractor that is not meeting high expectations…we can proudly say that after three years of construction and a total of six years since idea inception, we are on time and under budget.”  “Our district will continue to work with Sano-Rubin well into our construction future.”

Dr. Kevin S. Baughman, former Superintendent of Schools, Niskayuna Central School District

“The organizational support you provided to our construction management team was immeasurable.  The project coordination support…allowed us to work through complex details of each project in an orderly and prompt manner.  In addition, the site managers assigned to each building maintained a quality control on the contractor’s work and maintained project timelines…Your commitment to a job extends well beyond the normal time frame.”

Terrance L. Brewer, former Superintendent of Schools, East Greenbush Central School District

“When the Facilities Committee was making a decision about which Construction Company to choose, one of the most important questions was “Who will be in the Trailer?”, meaning who will be on site and keeping an eye on the day-to-day workings.  When the decision was made …Nate Garrant and Ken Rizzo of Sano-Rubin were chosen…We could not have made a better selection.  What a pleasure it is working with them.”

James M. Flaherty, General Manager, The Fort Orange Club

“The professionalism, knowledge, expertise and guidance your firm provided during the pre-construction and bidding phases were first rate.   Sano-Rubin’s close working relationship with the design architect and district administrators created a successful team approach and proactive management style…all of the 83 construction contacts covering the 16 individual projects, have been fully closed out without one claim.”

Gregg D. Nolte, PE, Director of Facilities & Operations, Bethlehem Central School District

Your team did a fabulous job at supporting our crew…Every step of the way.  Thanks so very much for the teamwork and responsiveness.”

Ronald Zimmerman, Jr. Senior Director of Engineering & Facilities, Glens Falls Hospital

“I just wanted to…express my thanks for the help Sano-Rubin has extended the Daughters as we investigate our new phone system.  It was a big help to have him hear both discussions and…that the systems were being designed in a similar manner.  This is an example of your company going “above and beyond” what you are actually required to do and we do appreciate the added care.  It certainly adds a measure of comfort to me that we will make a good decision. Thanks for this and all your team is doing to keep us moving along!”
