2012
canstruction
It starts with one can.
The Society for Design Administration (SDA) founded
Canstruction based on the concept that one can of
food may change someone’s life and one single
person can make a difference.
Canstruction is a design build competition that
gathers canned food donations for
community food banks. Teams from the
building industry design and create structures
made completely out of canned goods. After the
structures are exhibited at a public event and
awards are won, the cans are donated to families in need.
Since its inception in 1992, Canstruction has grown
rapidly. It is currently held in over 150 cities worldwide, and now the Capital Region has
joined this expanding list of participants.
With the support of the Eastern New York American
Institute of Architects (ENY AIA), a team comprised of representatives from local
architecture, engineering, and construction firms, the Food Pantries for the Capital District, and
the New York State Museum, have worked together to make Capital Region Canstruction a
reality.
This event directly benefits
The Food Pantries for the Capital District, a coalition of 54 food
pantries in Albany, Saratoga, and Rensselaer
Counties. In 2010, the organization served 2.4 million meals to
local families. The goal of Canstruction is to ensure that number
increases, along with public awareness of the
worldwide fight against hunger. Canstruction has proven to be
effective in taking up the fight. Since it was founded, over 17.5
million pounds of food has been donated to food
banks and pantries. |

2012 Daffodil Days were a Success!
The Sano-Rubin
staff
proudly participated in the 2012 American Cancer Society Daffodil Days
campaign raising money to benefit American Cancer Society programs
or research, education, prevention and patient and family services. Our donations were made in memory of Patrick
J. Hart, Sr., Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, who
lost his courageous battle with cancer in December 2008.
Thank you to
our staff and friends for supporting this important cause.

Certificate of
Appreciation
from St. Catherine's Center for Children
Sano-Rubin
received recognition for donations made to
St. Catherine's Center for
Children, a
Catholic charity providing services to improve the lives of children and
families. During the 2008 holiday season, Sano-Rubin
employees and their families purchased toys and clothes the children
requested on the Giving Tree. With the gifts and monetary donations
collected, we were able to brighten Christmas Day for several
children.
Thank you to everyone who
participated and a special thanks to Stacie Paplow for coordinating the
effort.
