The College of Saint Rose Centennial Hall Albany, NY

Architect's rendering of Centennial Hall - EYP Architecture & Engineering

Sano-Rubin is the Construction Manager for this $17.5 million,  94,000 sf residence hall.  Centennial Hall, named on honor of the College's upcoming 100 celebration in 2020, will house up to 224 juniors and seniors in two- and four-person furnished apartments, each with full living and dining rooms and kitchens

Designed by EYP Architecture & Engineering, the building features single-occupancy bedrooms, lounges and group study areas, and a rear courtyard that will be utilized by the College for campus gatherings. Centennial Hall will also include amenities such as “Provisions on Demand" (POD) - a convenience-type store,” a “Burger Studio” café, indoor bike storage, small study rooms, and laundry facilities on each floor.  Both the market and the café will be open to the public.

A number of “green” features will be incorporated into the project.   Geothermal heat pump system, high-efficiency boilers, materials low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs), high-efficiency lighting and controls, insulated exterior walls exceeding building code, and single-stream recycling are just some of the features minimizing energy use and overall impact on the environment.

The first phase of the project has been completed and included demolition of 13 buildings along Madison Avenue, Yates and Partridge Streets under a fast-track approach to ensure a seamless start of construction.  Sano-Rubin managed the disconnection and realignment of all utilities in the area.

During preconstruction, Sano-Rubin:

  • Developed bid packages to meet market conditions and best value

  • Over $500,000 saved through Value Informed Design (VID) approach

  • Condensed the construction timeline by 1 1/2 months to meet the College's accelerated schedule

The project is schedule to be completed in August 2012.
